2011 MFS Reunion - Thanks !

12/31/2011

The MFS Reunion for 2011 was a smash hit! The Old timers were here and showed the true nature of freestyle with old school bike and tricks. East Bethel, MN played host to this event 25 years after the first event’s kicking off competitions in the Midwest. Thank you to all who represented the sport as we had riders from all over.  Next year should be even larger as we get the word out to more old school riders and get some pictures out on the world to see. 2012 MFS Reunion will bring some new things as it will be indoors. Please stay tuned as we will have more details soon. Visit the facebook page also to keep informed. Let’s have a great 2012 and represent.

Well, it's been 25 years since the first Midwest Freestyle Series (MFS)  in Minnesota. BMX and freestyle was childhood from what I remember most and I am very happy to have met the friends that I did.

This BMX old school freestyle reunion will be the first reunion we have had and all are welcome to attend, OS and NEW so I am really excited about this. Going to be fun to see all the faces and family from the 80's. Ive also been thinking about having some contests again but its lots of work. Most likely start with flatland, work into some street and go from there. Getting feedback at the reunion will be important. This should be a fun event and very casual with food and chatter the mainstay!

Click the link above to keep up to date on this event and any future events.
Thanks - Dale

Rad days bmx skateboard snowboard U.K. site

Check out this website I bumped into while surfing the net, it's called Rad days! It's a combination of old school bmx, skateboarding and different winter activities combined with pictures gallery's, great stories and lots of pages to surf. The website is very well organized with plenty of up to date stories on skateparks and cool places to ride. Rad days has only been around for 10 months, but already is well established in the U.K. for its stories and pictures. Talking to the web guru at Rad days, I get a sense that in the future, you'll see even more interesting topics and stories whatever time of year you happen to find yourself. Also in the old school bmx section is some old school bike galleries.

You can find Rad days at    www.raddays.com     or go to our sweet sites page!

Skateparks in heaven

11/04/2010

Local Skate-parks are becoming more and more popular these days, especially city and county owned skate-parks. Having the skate-parks run this way makes it much more feasible to maintain and operate as the city can combine all recreation activities in a single park. The cost for these skate-parks can be daunting if your a private owner and would like one in your backyard, no thanks! I remember working in New Mexico and one of the local parks added a skate-park in 2002. The skate-park had everything including mountain views. The new skate-park was built in Tijeres, New Mexico, just East of Albuquerque at a cost of over $100,000. The ramps alone cost $40,000 and were state of the art construction. I was living in New Mexico at the time and working for a local newspaper called the Independent. My job was selling ads for the paper but being such a small paper, I also got to wear many hats, so writing a story on the opening of a skate-park seemed to good to be true. The local riders were great as they helped assemble the ramps for opening day. I don't know if the park is still open today but if you can get to Albuquerque and ride, you are in for a treat as the weather is beautiful most of the year. Except for the windy season in the spring, New Mexico is just what the doctor ordered for a dreary climate as the sun shines almost everyday, (thus, the sunshine state) and mountain views take your breath away virtually anywhere in the state. I hope your community has local parks too and if they don't, you can always go to your city hall and tell them you need one. Just don't give up and be positive with your concerns and you too can have your very own skate-park.
